ORIENTALIZING FEMININITY: NOTIONS OF IMPURITY IN UKRAINIAN MODERNIST LITERATURE

The paper examines the interconnectedness of feminity with ethnonational otherness in Ukrainian modernist literature context European misogyny and ethnophobia. It demonstrates how representation female sinful otherness, impurity, disloyalty was cemented misogynistic imagery, which women appeared as witches heterodox temptresses through sexual cultural differentiation. otherizing Orientalized ethnic groups Eastern Europe — typically Jews, Roma, Tatars involved their conceptual feminization well.
